The visual artist, Augustus Edwin John was born in Tenby, Wales in 1878. He was celebrated for his brilliant figure drawing and for his oil sketching. He became very popular as a portrait artist when he later developed a style of portraiture that was imaginative and often extravagant, capturing the spontaneous mood of his subjects.
